LA Market


We spent this past week in Los Angeles for LA Market plus a bit of design and manufacturing research as we begin designing the upcoming Fall 2018 season. With zero humidity and the sun shining perfectly on to every building, it was a hard goodbye at the end of the week on our way back to New York. Our week in LA was full of excitement, great people, good food, and inspiring events!

The week started off at The Line Hotel in Koreatown for our market week event with Garmentory. We showed the Spring 2018 collection along with a group of other great designers all curated by Garmentory. The Line provided a perfect backdrop for our SS18 collection ­– its colorful windows and modern look complemented our colorful pieces beautifully. Oh, and did we mention that the event was outside?? It was a great morale booster. Here’s a vote for every market week to be outside in the perfect LA sun. Our event ended on a high note (quite literally) with the Garmentory cocktail party and a little late night live karaoke.

Garmentory x Line created a great space for designers to show off their collections in a more intimate and casual setting. It is inspiring to meet other designers and small businesses and learn from each other as we continue to develop our own collection.



After getting some much-needed vitamin D at the hotel pool, we shifted our sights towards Fall 2018. We visited PDR for potential new development and looked through some of their available yarn qualities. It was exciting to find a large variety of unique sustainable options ­– from recycled polyesters to eco wools and cottons. It is always great seeing more and more innovative reuse ­– proving how many options there are to create quality resourceful low impact clothing.

We stopped to gather inspiration at several vintage stores and shops throughout LA. Vintage pieces are a good resource when looking for interesting silhouettes and ideas for the upcoming season! Plus, it’s a great rest stop for some potential Halloween shopping as well ;)

Our final destination of the trip was at Ragfinders in search of fabric for the upcoming season. Ragfinders sells deadstock fabric, unused fabric from other designers, to new clients for reuse. At first glance, this warehouse is overwhelming ­– three stories and a basement full of yards and and yards of fabric that one could easily get lost in. But it was also a resource full of potential ideas for future use. After hours of exploring, we pulled some great options for fall. Ragfinders was an exciting find that aligns well with Kordal’s values. Our trip there was an important reminder of waste within the fashion industry and it is exciting to work with a company trying to reduce what is simply thrown out after production.

Back in New York now, we are still dreaming of that California sun. Refreshed and ready to dig into Fall 2018, our trip to LA was a success!
