Spring 2018 ~ Behind the Scenes

Spring 2018 ~ Behind the Scenes

October 05, 2017

Last month we had our photoshoot for the upcoming Spring 2018 collection at the beautiful 99 Scott space in Bushwick. The light shining perfectly through the large windows early in the morning set us up for a day full of creativity and excitement.

For this shoot, we collaborated with Nicole and Jenna from Either And for styling and photography. This photoshoot really portrayed the unique and rich style of the new collection. The inspiration for this collection stems from the choreography and costume design of the Batsheva Dance Company performance “Last Work.” The movement throughout the performance inspired strength and ease, while the costumes were simple in design with a tonal color palettes and one highlight of bright blue. The opportunity to work with our three models Tabi, Francis, and Emily allowed us to bring this inspiration into the photoshoot through effortless flowing movements and dynamic group shots. Color and light played an important role in this season’s photoshoot as well. For our color palette, we took inspiration from the recent Georgia O’Keefe exhibit and worked with a local dye house to create a custom color palette. Paired with the already perfect lighting at 99 Scott plus those picture perfect overcast days – Jenna and Nicole’s styling choices highlighted this rich and artistic palette.

It was inspiring to work with so many great creative women on this shoot and see the collection come to life on set. Check back in the spring for the full collection!

Lived In Series ~ Ilana Glazer
Lived In Series ~ Ilana Glazer

October 17, 2022

Like many of us, I was introduced to Ilana Glazer through the genius of Broad City, a show that she and pal Abbi Jacobson created and starred in. So when Ilana came to our Fort Greene shop last fall, we just about lost it! We shared that this year is Kordal's ten year anniversary and it would be such an honor to feature her in our Lived in Series to mark the occasion. Fast forward a few months later and Ilana is rolling up to set in Crown Heights on her bike, and yes, she's just as cool and kind as you'd expect. She's generous with her time, has everyone cracking up and looks incredible in our knits - even on a humid 90 degree day. We got a chance to talk about pregnancy and healthcare, how styling informs her characters, and finding levity amidst existential challenges.

Lived In Series ~ Kelly Brown
Lived In Series ~ Kelly Brown

January 05, 2022

We were first introduced to Kelly Brown's work midway through 2021, a year into the pandemic and dreaming of the days we could travel to wild places again. Kelly is a photographer who splits her time between British Columbia and Joshua Tree, California and its her ability to beautifully capture these vastly different landscapes that drew us to her work. For this month's lived in series we caught up with Kelly to learn more about her inspirations, building an Earth House in Joshua Tree and becoming a mother.
