Sounds of the Studio ~ Barrie The Band

Sounds of the Studio ~ Barrie The Band

April 08, 2019

Last fall we received an email from Barrie, the Brooklyn five-piece band made up of Barrie Lindsay, Dominic Apa, Spurge Carter, Sabine Holler and Noah Prebish. Lucky for us they were shooting their new album cover and asked to pull some pieces from our fall collection. We loved seeing our collection styled on both the men and women in the group and are so thrilled to share some of those photos with you here! What's even better is that we love their music, the new album is so dang good it's been on constant rotation at our studio.

Lived In Series ~ Vanessa Vargas

Lived In Series ~ Vanessa Vargas

December 04, 2018

I met Vanessa five years ago while desperately searching for someone to help fix a very bad haircut. Luckily I walked into the salon where Vanessa was working and not only did she fix my hair but we ended up chatting the entire time and have become good friends ever since. After working for some really great local salons Vanessa opened up her very own shop Suite V in Crown Heights this past year! Fusing all of her passions, the shop doubles as a salon and vintage store. Plus you can always count on a great playlist, which I wouldn't expect anything less as Vanessa is a hair stylist by day but vinyl reggae dj by night! Truly a woman of many talents and one of the kindest people I've been lucky enough to befriend. To learn more about how this amazing lady got her start check out our Q&A below!

On The Fringe Panel Discussion

On The Fringe Panel Discussion

November 07, 2018

In fashion, and in society today, there are rarely prescribed linear pathways with clear end goals but rather an ever-shifting series of unexpected events which must be navigated in creative ways. In this spirit, we brought together a panel of four inspiring women who are each crafting innovative pathways at the fringes of the fashion industry. Our hope was that this discussion would inspire both young creatives and industry professionals to challenge the status quo and reimagine their participation in the fashion system.

Factory Visit ~ The New Denim Project

November 06, 2018

This past August I had the incredible opportunity to visit one of our Kordal partners in Guatemala and to meet the magic-makers and innovators behind some of our most popular woven styles! The New Denim Project is a textile manufacturer based in Guatemala City who is committed to closed-loop production practices, uniting technology and ecology in the production of textiles in order to maintain their commitment to quality and environmental and social responsibility. Their methods are based on eliminating the concept of “waste,” giving every part of the process a purpose.

Lived In Series ~ Lily Piyathaisere

Lily Piyathaisere ~ Owner of Gamma Folk, Beacon, NY.

Our Lived In Series was created to capture our clothing on a series of women, all pursuing their own creative paths, to see how they live in Kordal. So many women in our lives inspire us with their drive, their talent, and their genuine sense of self. These are the women we design for. They remind us of why we want to design clothing in the first place: to create pieces that encourage comfort, ease, and the unique and honest beauty in each and every one of us.

Lived In Series ~ Hannah Buck + Charlotte Farrell

Lived In Series ~ Hannah Buck + Charlotte Farrell

July 21, 2018

This week's Lived in Series is especially close to my heart as we're featuring two very dear friends, Hannah Buck and Charlotte Farrell. Both originally from Australia they have chosen Fort Greene, Brooklyn as their home, alongside two very special cats Nagy and Ryoko. Their relationship began as Charlotte says "with a mutual awe for each other's creativity, and an affinity for cats." I'm so grateful to have these two in our lives, constantly loving and supporting not just one another's creative endeavors, but also their friends and community.

Lived In Series ~ Studio Mondine

July 05, 2018

For this month's Lived in Series we caught up with the incredibly lovely and talented women behind Studio Mondine, a floral design studio based in foggy San Francisco, California. Inspired by the lushness of English garden arrangements and the precision of Japanese ikebana, they look to nature and the changing of the seasons to inform their designs. It's with feverish enthusiasm that they seek out the rarest ingredients, working directly with the finest flower farmers in the nation or cultivating these special blooms ourselves in our small cutting garden.
